We've all heard the standard rationalizations - "it calms me down," "it perks me up," (bit of a contradiction there, isn't it?),
"I like the taste," etc. But this one struck me as particularly ostrich-like in its active rejection of reality:
Before I stopped inhaling nicotine, a smoking colleague of mine said "I've tried to quit, but you can't work here and not smoke."
At the time, my junkie mind eagerly grasped that statement - although even through the haze of cigarette smoke I could see that it didn't quite hold water logically. Now I can see that, far more than that, it didn't even make sense!!! I work in an office with at least 100 people. I think that only 4 of them smoke. Based on the above statement, I'm amazed that the other 96 haven't been fired yet! :)
So what's the craziest rationalization you ever heard (or said)? And while you're thinking of it, take some time to be grateful for the fact that we don't need those rationalizations any more - because we're FREE!
