Kim's Missing Lung - the cancer has now spread to the brain through the blood.

I saw the neurosurgeon today and he has booked the brain tumour removal for Monday morning at 11 am. The tumour is 2 cm in size and is just under the skin on the right side of the brain. I will be sedated but awake during the procedure as they need to monitor my motor skills as they are removing it. He said there is no guarantee that they can get it all but they will keep removing as long as all my functions keep working.

There will be radiation sometime afterwards. It needs time to heal first and to let the swelling go down as radiation causes swelling also.

Kelly will keep you all up to date.

Kim...................10 months +..... and wishing I was going through withdrawal instead of this!

I reckon this will be my posting on Tuesday:

Kim tolerated her surgery very well. She is up and talking and they are letting her out of the hospital on today.

They got the whole tumour out with no problem to her motor skills. They are going to give her radiation for insurance purposes, but the doctors have given her a clean bill of health.

Hello Kim:

As everyone else has already said, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Please keep up your fighting spirit. I have mentioned this to you in the past that I have had quite a few people who were given terrible odds who ended up beating this disease. The one thing that they had in common was that fighting spirit. It was part of their general personality even before the disease, and in some ways it even became stronger after the diagnosis and treatments.

I also want to thank you for sharing your experience and insights with us here at Freedom. Your closing line is one of the most valuable comments ever to be shared at Freedom. "Kim...................10 months +..... and wishing I was going through withdrawal instead of this!"

In all my clinics for the past 27 years I have said to my groups that the suffering that people go through from withdrawal is nothing compared to the suffering that people can avoid if they quit smoking and prevent any of the smoking related illnesses. I think that many people minimize that comment when I make it, thinking that their pain and suffering seems to be great. But I think people who now read your comment here and see your whole story will see things in a different light.

I hope all of our lurkers, people who have not yet quit smoking because they are afraid of the withdrawal, will now take special note here. As your experience is showing, the battle that is being waged here at Freedom is truly a fight for your health and a fight for your life.

So once again, thanks for your insights here. Your story is likely saving people from having to go through the same experiences in the future. You are saving people's lives here today. By quitting smoking people are doing the one best thing that they can do to avoid getting such a terrible condition as you are now experiencing. This disease, as well as a host of other conditions that smoking can cause should be avoided at all costs. Because most people do not have that fighting spirit that you have already shown and because of this their odds are greatly minimized of beating this disease because of that fact.

Many people who went through your experiences 10 months ago would have already succumbed or have given up--almost having their life ended long before the disease actually takes them. But you are making each and every day count and you are not going to let this disease win without a fight. This attitude is going to give you your best chances of beating this thing once and for all. Attitude is all important here.

People perform literal miracles with such attitude. We see it everyday here at Freedom. People who thought at one time or another in their lives that quitting smoking was totally impossible who now are celebrating days, weeks, months, or even years totally smoke free. Attitude is what helped them win their battle over addiction. Attitude and knowledge. The attitude that this is a fight for their health and their life and that they are going to give it their all and the knowledge that to win this fight that they must always know to never take another puff!

Hang in their Kim. We are all out here behind you.

Dear Freedom Friends:

Sorry to take so long with the update, but as you all know, no news is good news.

I am so happy to report that they got the entire tumour out without any effect at all to her motor skills. A CT scan after her operation came back clear and once again, she is cancer free. They are going to arrange radiation in a couple of weeks.

Once again, all of your prayers and positive energy have helped win another battle and thank you seems so inadequate.

We are at my parent's house right now and Kim is having a nap, but she will be online later.

Hello All!

I am at my Mom and Dad's again, they look after me after surgery cause no one is at home at my house during the day. My Mom is a retired nurse which is an added bonus.
As you all know the surgery went well and I was awake during the 2 hr 20 min procedure. They gave me a squeeky toy in my left hand and made me squeek it every time they asked so they knew my left side was still working. It was quite the weird feeling when they sawed my skull open. The only thing that hurt was when they put the freezing in my head and when they stapled it up after. Apparantly your brain has no feeling. The side of my head is shaved with a small circle of staples. I'll need to get a hat soon...............lol. My husband took pictures, so I'll get them scanned and sent to John to update my webpage. One is of Kelly and I in my hospital bed, hope it turns out.
I want to thank everybody for you hugs, prayers and all that positive energy sent my way, I could really feel it and I know it helped in making the surgery successful.
I will be getting radiation in a couple of weeks as a precaution cause there is a chance that smaller than microscopic cells could still be there.

You're some woman. I'm so glad to read your voice. You've been in Tess' and my thoughts daily. We're both delighted that things went well with the surgery. I guess I'll never look at a squeeky toy the same way again. That must have been bizarre.

Thanks for updating us. I think it's absolutely incredible that you'd be thinking of how your experience could be helping others when going through such an ordeal. I'm sure those pictures are going to be the thing that puts some kid over the top in his or her motivation to quit some day soon, and another time, it'll be a songwriter seeking motivation to stave off relapse whose life you save.... some other time, it'll be a teacher and mother in the middle of glory week who finds a good reason to persevere in your story. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all those you continue to motivate.

"Don't take up smoking again."

We assured him that we were both far too educated to ever do that.

Hello Kim:

I just hung up with a person who is in her second day not smoking. She is reading at Freedom to support her quit in these early stages. She was having a rough time today and went lurking around the board for information to help sustain her quit. She found this specific post and referred back to me your specific comment of "10 months +..... and wishing I was going through withdrawal instead of this!"

I just thought you would like to know your story has reached another person today in the early stages of a quit and well worth repeating again and again for anyone else out there who is thinking that quitting smoking causes real suffering. Smoking causes really suffering and no one should ever minimize that concept.

Everyone reading here should realize that to avoid real suffering and pain for yourself and all who care for you always remember that you were fighting for your health and literally for your life the day that you first committed to never take another puff!
