Welcome to Freedom!
Glad to know you are getting serious about your health. Just remember no matter what your test results are (I am thinking all good thoughts for you ). . . or whatever challenges life throws at you, smoking again will only make it worse (both physically & emotionally). I think that losing a quit over bad news or a setback only adds to the setback!
Smoking is scary . . . life with freedom from nicotine is wonderful!!

I'm with Susan here, Kelly but we also understand where you're coming from! It's amazing how our concerns change so rapidly once we realize that we can quit and live comfortably as ex-smokers. I've sort of adopted the philosophy that it's ok to worry about those things that I can control but that it's a waste of emotion, and my limited time here on earth, to worry about those things over which I have no control.

But like many such rules, they're much easier to say than do! At times I still find myself hoping that I have quit in time and that I have lots and lots of wonderful years ahead. Like many here, I've had lots of time to reflect upon the possibility that I didn't learn to live without my three packs-a-day soon enough. My mind's bottom line is that if the worst should come to pass, I'm going out of this world the same way I arrived, free! John - The Gold Club

Hi Kelly , Hope you are feeling better today and not so apprehensive. I too have been having thoughts about what damage I may have done over the years. The way I see it though is this .. No matter what is going on inside my body at least I have stopped adding to it now ..so long as I never take another puff it wont get any worse.. Like John says I hope I stopped in time to enjoy a good many years ..Am sure you will be unsettled till you get your results but we will all be rooting or you .. I have had a few incidents since i quit that normally i would have ignored and smoked through but ive had to deal with them and face them without the ciggie and you know what .. i was able to deal with each incident easier and i was so surprised .. Lord knows why i let nicodemon rule my life for so long.. i can cope much better without him,and you will too ,if you allow yourself to .. Good luck ,keep posting .. MILLY 3 Weeks 5 Days 13 hours and counting .................

I guess everyone here feels the same as you. You know, knowledge is a wonderful thing, but sometimes knowledge brings with it uncomfortable truths. Everyone at Freedom now knows all there is to be known about the dangers of smoking. That includes the realization of what we may have done to our bodies. It's that knowledge, and the fear that you spoke of, which represents our best insurance against ever relapsing. As Joel has said, anyone here who relapses can never enjoy smoking again, because they know too much about the dangers !!!

The key to dealing with that fear is exactly as John says. Treat it as a positive. Worrying about problems we cannot influence is a destructive process. In the words of The Serenity Prayer (which has often been quoted on this board) :-

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change
The courage to change the things I can
And the wisdom to know the difference

You have had the COURAGE to change one thing you can --- you have quit smoking. Now work on the SERENITY with regard to your X-rays, and your sister's health

Hi Kelly (love your name, same as my daughter)

I think you are very sensible and also very brave - I quit almost a year ago and am still not game enough to have the thorough medical checks. I am still in that "head in the sand" stage that I was so comfortable in as a smoker. I JUST DON'T WANT TO KNOW!

You have taken the step and I hope that you will be rewarded with a clean bill of health. You may even inspire me to do the same.

I know you will be a bit anxious waiting for the results, in the meantime stay close to us here. We are all thinking of you. Cheers from Glenys
