Congrats on 5 Years Gold!
I'd like to link in another of your older posts that had led me to carry a now ratty piece of paper in my wallet for near two years
now. Only had to pull it and sit down and carefully read it one time, but it was worth its weight in gold the one time I really needed it! So thanks again
for tellin us about the Last Line of Defense

WOWSER BOB! WELL SAID!
5 YEARS GOLD....AWESOME
I have been blessed, amused and educated by the many wise writings you have contributed here in the Freedom from Tobacco forums...I
couldn't resist having a look-see for your >> And on the seventh
day had to blow the dust offa this one! It is so encouraging, especially for newer members to
experience the written contrast in the passing of years with its hope and comfort ...That whole thread is powerful!
You said in 2001>>> " I've worked as a Web designer for 5 years, and have spent countless hours, days, weeks, months on the Internet. I can honestly say, THIS IS THE MOST WORTHWHILE ENDEAVOR I'VE EVER ENCOUNTERED. Those of you who created this space, those who manage it daily, and those ex-smokers who take time to come back and help those of us that are following the trail you've plowed are HEROES. Your words of encouragement, advice, wisdom and knowledge have given me (and God knows how many others) the tools we've needed to break nicotine's insidious grip. You save lives on a daily basis. I can't thank you enough for your support."
THANK YOU BOB FOR TAKING THE YOKE OF THE PLOW WITH YOUR MENTORS AND MAKING THIS EXPERIENCE ONE FROM WHICH WE CAN EXPECT AND
RECEIVE SUPPORT.

O-Bob,
As the years pass and we become more comfortable in our nicotine sobriety our perspective on addiction changes from one desperately seeking refuge from its side effects to one who can stand alone without fear of relapse and without the trauma of the early days. We are still subject to the same laws of addiction as any newb, and are in no manner immune to relapse but we just don't see it as a big scary monster. A big scary monster can come and get us against our will, it can consume us if we are not vigilant and prepared to fight back. I agree instead that it is not something that can overcome or consume us against our will. It is not a big scary monster. Nor is it an unwanted entity living within us. It is, and always has been, a choice. Before we quit, we chose to use nicotine to prevent nicotine withdrawl and we could not see the error in our logic. Now we choose none and our maintenance costs have gone way down. I would rather spend hours on end reading the musings of nicotine addicts in recovery, then one more minute under the influence of nicotine. The one enriches my life while the other takes it away. Thank you Bob, for all that you contribute to this forum. Joseph Gold x2 |

Thanks Bob for another cogent and inspirational post. I made very good use of many of your posts in my early quit, but quitters of every stripe can find
something precious to take to heart in posts like these. I am grateful and appreciative of the time and effort you put into supporting your brother and sister
quitters on this forum. Massive congratulations to you for being five years free, it's an awesome achievement and one of which you should be very proud!
Best of all, we can all get there the same way, by choosing to be free one day at a time.
Bernadette quit 2 Years, 3 Months, saved $4,138.43, left 16,553 cigarettes at the store. |
